EDUCATION

Guest teacher of the period

Thomas Zornat SE

Antonio Sognasoldi SE (from 25th August)

The guest teachers

The main part of the tuition consists of a unique guest teaching programme with 30 -35 guest teachers per year. The guest teachers are coming from all over Scandinavia and also elsewhere. The teachers are active, practising artists, who also have teaching experience at academies or university level.

In the Nordic Art School the students have an opportunity to get individual tuition by the prominent and internationally recognized contemporary artists.

Studies

The working day is from 9am to 4 pm and the teachers are making visits to studios also after the actual teaching hours. The guest teachers are giving open lectures on Tuesday evenings presenting their own artistic work. These lectures are an essential part of the studies and they give a wide view on the field of contemporary art.
On Thursday evenings there is model drawing and some weekends are occupied with short courses.

We emphasize the basic skills in visual arts and put a great value on drawing model. In addition to drawing, painting and printmaking are essential parts of the studies. There are also various audio-visual projects and also environmental art and site-specific projects.

The students are not divided strictly according to first and second year groups, but we take on account to each individual’s previous studies and special areas of interest.

The theoretical studies are mainly connected with practical work, but there are also specific series of lectures on the history of art and the theory of contemporary art.

The student's fee is 673 euros per term. Part of the material is included into fee, but there will be some expenses on materials.

The School building

The school building and its facilities are open to students day and night. As second year student, you can either get a studio of your own or hire a project studio, as a first year student. The school has a large painting hall, studios, graphic workshop, computer hall, photo-laboratory and workshop for woodwork.

The school has not got a dormitory, but it is rather easy to find accommodation in Kokkola. There are special flats for students in the town. The school staff is giving a hand in any possible problems, if needed.
